Ordering a tree

Hello. My mother and I recently went to a bonsai class, which we both really enjoyed. I'm considering getting her a second tree for her birthday in just under a month. After the class she was saying that she wished that she had chosen a maple or something along those lines, as she has a perfect area to overwinter a deciduous tree and loves the fall colors. I'd love to get her one, but I'm worried that ordering a deciduous tree this far into the fall would be a bad idea. I would have to keep the tree indoors for approximately four days until I could take it to her, unless I left it in my car with cracked windows.... I'm worried that the stress of moving a tree from area to area this late in the fall could be damaging. The area I'm in is colder than where my mom is (I've had a few frosts this year, but she hasn't). I guess I'm wondering if there would be a reasonable chance of a maple surviving mail order transportation, and then being transported to another area about an hour and a half away. If not I'll go with my original plan of finding her a tropical tree she can keep indoors.

rather tricky this, i mean, what i would do is possibly get a note in her card saying "your present will come, but at the right time" or something (that would be what i would do), and possibly get another small present for the time being, when waiting for the right time to order the tree. thats all i can say to be honest. but be careful when ordering bonsai as something like this is a rip off (IMHO):
but wait for further posts as i am not experienced with japanese maples. also, be careful as my friend ordered a tree (malsai) and it died within the 2 day transportation. it could have been anything but who knows.
also, something like this is a complete rip off and does not even qualify as mallsai!
(whoever is selling this must be too confident)

I see no risk whatsoever. (As and example: I am about to fly across the globe, to south america. I have been asked by a friend there, to bring some trees. Considering the risk of insects etc, I will rinse the tree of all soil. Wrap it in moist papertowels. Pack it in a suitcase. Transport it. Keep it ina hotelroom. And then hand it over to someone in the tropics. (I have no illusion that the tree will live in the tropics, but that is my friends risk; I am sure it will leaf-out, and take root, once there).
Also, I dug up a large (7ft) azalea today. It is now sitting in a wheelbarrow till the weekend, when I have time to properly pot it up.
In short: trees are very resiliant to minor short-term disturbances, except for too much heat, cold and dryness. What you are referring to, is all within paramters.
However.. 名媛直播 is also about emotion: Your mom should have a click. And what would be nicer than to take her to a bonsaishop (If you have one closeby!) and offer her a budget to select her own tree? You'd get some quality time together too!

Yay! I can get her the type she wants instead of just a tropical tree.
I wish I could take her to pick one out, but with time and financial restrictions I can't. The only bonsai shop near by is 30-40 min away from her, has really tight hours, and I don't know if I would be able to get to my mom before the store closes. And financially I would be able to get her a nicer tree and pot if I ordered it online. We live near the New England 名媛直播 Gardens, and their deciduous trees tend to be fairly pricy, even the pre-bonsais. At least now I can shop around to get her the best quality tree I can afford

bob- I'm propably going to try to order from a bonsai garden in this area rather than going on amazon. There are a few that ship trees within about four or five hours of me, so the tree should be ok and wouldn't go into shock or anything from the transportation (or at least not because of a too quick change in temperature, I'm hoping). I'll be sure to keep what you said about Japanese maples in mind. I'll try to find a maple bonsai native to this area, as that would propably make caring for it a lot easier.

If you can choose the tree yourself. It is not a good idea to order on the internet without seeing the tree. You need to be able to look into the branch structure and all around to see each side of it.
As for moving it they are much tougher than so many people think, and will be fine just make sure it is watered.

Like I said before, I don't have the time to go out to someplace to get the tree. The closest place is an hour and a half to two hours away. I'm in my senior year of college, and don't have the time to drive that far. I found some nice looking trees that I could order from the New England 名媛直播 Garden, and my experiences with them have been very good in the past. They only ship trees that are healthy, and that are the best shape they have available (or at least for the ones where you aren't ordering a specific tree). They do a good job taking care of their trees, and their customers though.

Ok,
If you are keeping the plant, a maple should not be in a heated room, the air is too dry. So best keep it in the car, if you cannot keep it outside somewhere.

If I kept it outside it would most likely get either trampled, stolen, or peed on by a dog. The best place I can keep it for the few days until I can give it to my mom is in the car, although the place I am ordering from only does 24hr delivery for trees, so I can wait until last minuet to have it shipped to me and would have it in the car for the shortest timeframe possible.
