Does anyone know what type of tree this is? It is sentimental and I would like to know what tree it is so I can care for it properly.

Thank you,
Nicola.

There are ivies with the same variegated colors, but the leaf shape is different.

If it is ok with you one way to see if it is a ficus would be to see if white latex oozes from a wound like say when you trim a leaf from a branch. Do as you wish but i do advise you listen to other people before you try this that is, if you want to obviously. Remember this isa suggestion you haveva coice.

Assuming this is a ficus, because I am inexperienced and don't know anything about IDing trees, there are TONS of websites you can read to help you care for it. I just bought a ficus and have been reading a lot. Like bob said, ficus do have a white sap so if you pinch off one of the leaves and see that, then you will know it is one. I wouldn't say doing so would damage your plant.

Ficus are tropical, so you need to make sure it doesn't get left out in the cold. Water it normally, when the soil gets dry, and make sure it gets a ton of light. However, do not put it directly in the sun all the time or it will burn. Ficus also enjoy being misted, it helps keep them humid, especially if they are inside.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong ^ (: Just thought I would try to be of some help.

As Bob indicated, this is a variagated variety of Ficus Benjamina. For now, treat as you would any regular ficus housplant. Lots of light (But in this stage I would not put it in full sun) Water when the soil is dry tot he touch (But not dried out to the core). Show a picture of the soil; It may be that a lot of lime has built up (Older housplants that have not been repotted for a long time typically have this problem). Lime will also cause an otherwise well-treated plant to droop and start loosing leaves.
