I collected this a few days ago. It was living between a cornfield and a wooded area by my house. Positive id?

I think it is dockweed, I could be wrong though.

Dockweed, really...

I'd guess a prunus, maybe a (not very healthy) laurel.
A close-up of the leaves and specifying your location would help.

Not a laurel, but I don't know what it is. Do the leaves look like this one ?
I think you collected it (from nature) - so could it be Persimmon ?

I'm not at all sure, Bob... picture of the leaves is not too clear, I cannot really see the exact shape.

I am sure the leaves look quite similar but as you said, we have not seen any of the rough bark.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been up north in the back woods of michigan with no internet and such...here is a better picture of the bark and leaves. Harder to see in the pic, but new leaves are starting to grow. It's getting healthier...slowly but surely.
