A 名媛直播 Tree Story was created by ElusiveWatcher

I was wondering if anyone could help me or give me so advice.

A little while back I bought a reduced bonsai from ASDA’s in the UK, at the time it was in a pretty sorry state so I was aware it was probably a long shot.

It didn't say on the label what species it was just that it was an indoor bonsai, I've had a look at the difference species and I’m really not sure.

I brought it home, watered it and fed it for about four weeks, It didn't really seem to be doing anything. After doing some research I decided to re pot it as it was in a poor quality pot and soil(going by the research).

After research what was the best soil/compost to re pot it with I settled on a mix of 25% Akadama ( ) 25% horticulture grit (picture in linked album) and then 50% John Innes No3 ( ).

I’m hoping that the mix is right, but it seems like there is a lot of of the grit/akadama near/on the top of the soil.

My main concern as this is point is I’m still not really sure if its either alive or actually growing. It does seem to have a few leaves which while haven’t fallen off at least to my eye they don’t really look that healthy, the seem slightly dry and crisp/crinkly. I have tried the scratching the trunk and it is green underneath the trunk bark.

I’m not sure If I should be trimming back what look like the dead trunks or if I should just leave it and see if anything happens first
Being this is my first bonsai and it probably wasn't a smart move to my a reduced probably dead one and hope to save it as a starting project however I’m trying.

As I said basically any sort of help or advice you could give would be greatly appreciated

You don't know what species is, but you did manage to find out the best soil  ?

Looking at the tree, all I can say is: R.I.P.

I have not seen any in Asda. But they do not water anything so, it was as good as dead when you bought it. I think it may have been a Chinese Elm. Don't give up though, just buy something which has been looked after from a nursery or garden centre. York 名媛直播 would be a good place to start.

Considering the state it was in when I bought it the pot was chipped and the soil was very poor. Yes, while I didn't know the exact specie of the tree. Looking around on the internet seem to suggest that a average/normal mix was the 25/25/50 .

lesson 1: Buy plants from reputable dealers
Lesson two: there is no such thing as optimal soil. The best soil mixture depends on the species, geographic location, caretaker & mixers' preferences

i agree with all the previous posts, and also in tesco they sell "Christmas bonsai", which are, well, malsai, the big supermarkets try to have everything you want in them so they put a very small percentage of effort into each product that gets shipped in.
