MOULDY ISSUES?? was created by RSRACH

Hi. I have just bought my husband a grow your own set which consisted of 5 pots, 5 compost discs and 4 packs of seeds, i read and read and read the instructions and started to proceed. I put my little pots as it states in little food bags, thin and none seal able, left them in good light, out of direct sun light, only watered them once in a week (started them June 27th) and after checking them this morning they have fluffy mold on the soil and around the pots, some little black and white spots growing from the side of the pots too?

I am worried they are going to be a wasted effort and need some advice. so any will be appreciated.

I am in the UK and its been warm lately, no heating on in the house so a nice room temp but fresh air in all the time.

Thanks

I have just had another look and tried to clear the mold but this is impossible without starting again but looks like 3-4 seeds were at the top of one and they had mold coming of them? is this maybe just part of the germination (spell) stage? I have noticed also they are still quite wet, have we put too much water in to begin with? i have removed the bags from covering them and left them in the room temp air, have ruffed up the soil a bit as well as it looked a bit compacted?

really need advice lol

First, what species of tree seed did you buy? Second put them outside, in a shady spot out of direct sunlight and take them out of the bags. They may take six months or more to germinate. You need to water when the soil starts to dry, and wait. In about 3 years you will have something to do.
In the meantime buy a book and read about bonsai. Have a look at bonsai4me.com Harry does two very good books, and there is a lot of information on his web site. Where are you in UK? You may be near a bonsai nursery you can visit. There are also show around the country, there is one on 6th July at Hermitage near Newbury.
If you can't get there, go to your local garden centre and look for a tree with a trunk something he can do while waiting for the seedlings.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not growing them outside they wouldn't last 5 mins, my garden gets sunlight all day round and the seeds were a mixture which I think is weird. In north east UK so that show is too far. I'll look at purchasing a book

There is a nursery in Northumberland, Wiloowbog 名媛直播.
The seeds depending on the species may need a cold period therefor they will not germinate in a warm environment. They should be outside, not in. You will be better to buy a tree rather than start from seed, whilst that is the best way to get the best material it is not the way for a beginner to start. Go to your local gardedn centre look at Cotoneasters, Mugo Pines Scots Pines. Buy something that you can actually do something with. I can promise you that be this time next year you will still be waiting fro something to do with the seedlings IF they germinate. By all means grow from seed, but also have something to do while you wait.
Sowing mixed seed again is not a good idea, how are you supposed to know what each seedling is? It can be difficult to tell what a seedling is for quite a while.
I would put the pots out and cover with a sheet of glass and a sheet of newspaper to keep the sun off. The mould is caused by excessive moisture and will cause the seedlings to damp off.
As I said before look at bonsai4me.com and look for Willowbog 名媛直播 also.

they do not need a cold period, if they where collected naturally then they have already gone through the cold period, i collected my pine seeds from an old big tree in a japanese garden after winter and they sprouted/germinated well. but if they were imported, then put them in the fridge for 3-5-ish weeks.

it also took my seeds 4 weeks to germinate, so it can take 6 months, but 2 months would be a realistic time as 6 months would make the seeds lose about half of its reserves.
