Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me with the identification of my tree and if you have any other hints or tips that would be great, thanks!

A pic of the whole tree would be better - leaves look like Ligustrum at first guess?

Not a lot. I would suggest it might be Chinese Privet. You will have to keep it frost free. If you have it inside then in the best light you can. Water when needed, check every day and when almost dry water well.
What country are you in?
Geoff.

Hi Geoff, I live in scotland ( glasgow ) I have been watering it every couple of days when the soil is drying up.

Okay, but you need to check every day. You sound as if you have got it about right. Just don't water regardless. Start adding fertiliser later in the spring. You can use any balanced NPK.
