i am worried about my bonsai because the yellow leaves are falling of when i touch them, even the little, young leaves are falling off at touch. i just need an answer to all this so i can deal with it. if you want to ask any questions about the chinese elm's enviroment please post.

What country are you in? Where do you keep it? How are you watering it? Post a picture

I think it may be just the lower light levels, as long as you are watering when needed and not to a schedule then leaves will drop. If there are a lot dropping that could be a problem. How long have you had it? If only a short time, then it could just be the move. Make sure it is close to a window and in as much light as possible, and a cool spot.

thank you. i've had it for about 2 months. at least i know what it is, it used to an out doors tree, but i moved it indoors, it must be the shock.

It would be better outside, the leaves on mine are still green and will stay on until spring. It has had -12C last winter

Elms can stay outdoors in a cold dark place protected from frost and winds. If you give it time to harden off it will be alright.
If you prefer to keeping it indoors a unheated room is perfect. It's normal they drop leaves this time a year. They also need to go dormant.

Growing them indoors and keeping them green all year long will eventually weaken the tree because it will cost too much energy.
In that case leaf dropping can have a lot of reasons like low humidity dry air in the room. Not enough ventilation, drafts, not enough light. sudden temperature changes, over or under watering, clumped up soil so the roots suffocate. You name it.

Best is to let them go dormant.

Not sure that works in this country Chris. Mine is outside unprotected and last winter -12C it did not drop leaves until spring. I have know times when I have to de leaf as the tree would not drop them, the tree must be dormant, but I would not put it into a dark place. I agree it should best be outside though.
