What type of bonsai would be recommended for beginners? I've heard that junipers are the best.

junis are a good beginner coniferous tree. they can not be kept indoors and need to be outside for winter.i always recommend tropical trees especialy ficus (not ginsing ones from walmart) they grow fast and take a lot of abuse.

another option might be a chionese elm, it can be an indoor or outdoor tree, and is quite simular to a ficus in terms of care. also, they to can takeabuse, but less than a ficus.

Junipers but not the needle ones as the some people have troubles with the needles and they have a different approach to pruning.
Stick with chinesse junipers or shimpaku, itoigawa etc. Can't do much wrong with them.
