When I bought this plant from the nursery it already had this shape going for it.. It was in poor health but I think I've nursed it back enough to be worked on in the upcoming season. I've used (really shitty) guy/guide wires to form some "pads" out of the branches but the two top branches stick straight up, not really sure how to go about that? Idk if I should thin it out this season even further, or to just let it grow out and do it's thing. I know I need lower branches but what do you guys thibk? Also, I have some weird stuff going on down at the trunk, even tho it has great nebari. I have two stumps where branches had been cut before I bought it. I'm clueless as to the direction I wanna take with that.. Maybe a jin?? Any thoughts or opinions would be really helpful and apprexiated . don't hold back! I need so,e insight, thanks!! You say this season, what country are you in? it is autumn coming up winter here. Jinns on deciduous are usually not a good idea, as is using wire. You need to think about what you want from the plant before you do anything to it. Don't expect to have a bonsai in a few weeks, you won't. I would want to re pot the plant in spring into a larger pot to allow more growth and then grow it on for a couple of years. The stumps should be removed completely, as it is quite ugly. How do you know what the roots are like? have you had it out of the pot?

Its actually an evergreen species.. I'm not really looking for instant reaults , just wondering maybe what others would do if it was theirs. I have looked at the roots they don't look to bad and the plant has a really nice nebari. And when I say this season I am referring to the next growing season. I am in the east united states. It is autu,n here too. As for the stumps, they really are ugly, i have to agree so maybe i will just get rid of them completely. I like the thickness of the trunk and I like the branch structure it has now but I would like some lower branching. And I wasn't sure if I should thin it out in spring or just let it grow put and do its thing so I'd have more to work with. Thanks for your reply.

Also, even tho it has those two ugly stumps, I really like the base of the tree but it has hardly any taper at all.. not really sure how to deal with that.
