Ulmus Parvifolia problem was created by michaliskapa

Hello everybody. I could really use some help from people with more experience than me. I have a small collection of bonsais, one of which is an ulmus parvifolia of 10y.o. I have her for a couple of years and she is doing really great. I used to keep her mostly inside, which I understand now was a mistake. The winter here has been very harsh and even now it is still cool outside. It seems that she is still in a dormant-slumber mode. Or maybe she is just sick. The last weeks though I keep her outside, she gets lots of morning light. Also, the last week I have refrained a little from watering her as I have been told it may be a cause of over watering. Could you give some advice? I don't want to give up on her, but I am clueless on what to do. I attach some pics of her. Thank you in advance.

The soil is the soil-mix in which the bonsai was originally potted, so I don't know exactly. As for the fertiliser, it is a liquid fertiliser N-P-K / 4-5-6, I have followed the instructions written on the bottle and have done it once a week. Before, I used to use those little stone-like organic fertiliser N: 5,5 - P: 6,5 - K: 3,5.

Have you checked the roots, if its been a few years then maybe its time for a root trim/re-pot.

I will give it a look. If I need to change soil, what type of soil could I use? And what about fertilizing? I have currently stopped it as the bonsai does not blossom anymore. Should I continue fertilizing?

If it is overgrown roots, gently rake out the root and cut off approximately 1/3rd of any hanging down. Re-pot with a mix of about 60% organic and 40% grit. And lay of with the fertilizer for about a month after that. Hope this helps.

Will give it a try and hope it helps. Thank you for your advice. One last question. Do u have any idea why the bark has turned almost white, instead of the normal brown-ish color it is supposed to have?

Sorry not sure about the bark, it could be the variety that goes grey with age, or maybe to much calcium in your water. Or as a result of the above conversation.anyway good luck.

it may just be a lillte slow starting. i spot a bud starting in every pic so it is not dieing. the soil looks to be akadama from the pic but i am not sure.akadama has the tendency to break down into a mud like soil which can suffocate roots. repotting should be done in early spring so doing anything but putting it in a larger pot without disturbing the roots too much is your only option right now. id give it another week to let those new buds open to start pushing energy through the tree.it may have been just shocked from the environmental change

The truth is that it has some new buds which slowly break open, and also the existing leaves stay really green and don't drop. I will proceed to some re-potting, no root pruning at all. I ll follow the advice of doddsy above concerning the quality of the soil.
