i recieved this bonsai tree for mothers day but would love to know they type of tree, can anyone help....please

im leaning towards bird plum but really not sure . if it is it is an indoor tree and should flower. give it as much light as possible and do some reaserch on soil and repoting. the soil that is in there doesnt look to be the best

I have been growing my Bird Plum indoors for about 10 months now with great success. These trees like a soil that retains a little more water than regular bonsai soil. I mixed about 1/3rd potting soil with 2/3 of my custom bonsai mix. The key is to not over water them. I usually water my plum every 4 or 5 days. I highly recommend getting some supplementary lighting for the tree. My tree sits next to a north facing window with 2 grow lights on it.

Shape the tree using the clip and grow method. They really dislike wire.
They grow extremely fast, so prune often. I prune mine at least once a week.
