Hi,

I'd love some help with the identification of this tree. Could it be some kind of olive tree?

Many thanks in advance!

It could be. More likely though, it is a type of boxwood.

the leaves do look to be olive but the bark is wrong so ill go with L.B. and say kingsville boxwood.if so it can be left indoors over winter with alot of light or left outside to go dormant. it looks to be planted low in the pot so be careful with soil moisture it can cause the bark to rot

Lots of thanks for your answers! After googling some on boxwoods I guess the bark and the small white flower-like things here and there among the leaves really speaks for it being a boxwood tree!

Regarding it being planted low in the pot, would it be wise to carefully try to lift it upwards or brushing away some of the most shallow soil? Or do I risk damaging the roots? I bought it really cheap from a regular plant store so I guess they haven't really put too much thought into the plantation of the tree. I know you're not supposed to expect great things from trees like that but I intend on taking as good care of it as I can and see what happens!

brushing away the soil is what you would need to do unless you are ready to repot it pulling it up will leave an air pocket under the roots and will not be good. it mayjust be a top coating of the soil .you can use your finger and expose the base of the trunk.

Hi, It looks to me like a Harland Boxwood, Buxus harlandii. They make very nice bonsai.
