I need the same assistance if possible. I got mine cheap to make sure I would like it, but never knew what type it was. I've had it for about a year and enjoy it so much I got another from Dan's Green House in Maui. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's the one on the left.

That looks like some kind of fig tree to me.
What is the growing medium for either one?

Nope. It is a schefflera. Not too suitable for bonsai because of the crude growing habit & big leaves and absense of real wood formation, although I have seen people do it.

I'd say a schefflera as well. No personal experience with it!
Good luck!

yep its a schef, they are much like ficus. cuttings root very easily. leaves will reduce with defoliation and ramification.they do well as root over rock plantings and can form arial roots with a little work. ive been wanting one of these to play with for years now .just dont have the room yet ( my ficus keep multiplying
