Hi there first post for me and I'm afraid it's because I have a problem.

I bought my first tree (from a Garden Center) not a clue what species it is.

about 4 weeks ago and since then it has constantly been dropping leaves.
I have followed the routine of waiting until the soil is dry before watering again.

before they drop some of the leaves discolour

Hi Holy,

Welcome to 名媛直播Empire!

The tree you have there is a Carmona Microphylla. Dropping leaves can have many causes. Just adjusting to the new location could be one. Some root-trouble could be another. Do not let the soil dry out completly. Completely dried out soil is as bad as constant wet soil.

The plant should be in a bright spot.

The damage on the leaves looks a lot like a beetle is munching on the leaves.

Taking this all together, I would advice to have a look at the roots. Are they healthy (Virbrant bown, yellow or white) or damaged (Black)?

Thanks for the ID leatherback.

I took your advice and got the plant out of the pot to have a look at the roots and they look healthy enough to me. I had a look for any little beasties but couldn't spot any.

Have a little look on th eproper soil mix to use. This is regular potting soild, which may lead to problems. Do you water with cold or war water? Soild like this has a hard time taking up water once dry. If you use (luke)warm water instead, the pot will get watered properly. However, I would suggest a different soil mix.

Have you checked the plant for tiny insects (Size: < 0,5mm) and/or scale insects?

I would wash all that soil off and repot in a fairly free draining mix - try multi purpose compost with 40/50% perlite or vermiculite. You can then water regularly without the risk of over watering. Carmona like a warm spot, ideally fairly constant temperature and plenty of natural light. Mine gets a weekly feed, liquid seaweed at normal dilution, thriving on the bathroom windowsill. Like that pot.
