Can this Azalea be used for bonsai? It's a Encore azalea (autumn twist).

That's great news! I think this year i'm going to plant it in the ground and let the trunks get bigger. I will work on just shaping it and reading alot more. Thank you man of the trees.

well i just looked up the "encore" variety and they are rebloomers which may cause a problem it will take alot of flowerbud pinching to keep it healthy as bonsai it may also be a dwarf variety so it may not get big.
it should have a larger base that the 2 trunks come from that can be exposed in time,but a little pokin around wont hurt.if anything it will make a decent shohin size .at least you wont need to wait a year to see the flowers

Yeah i have a big Rhododendron and it blooms in spring. Its very beautiful but it doesn't last long. I can't wait to see this azalea bloom this fall. I looked at the tag on the azalea. It said it averages 4.5 feet high and 4 feet wide,and it blooms spring,summer,and fall. The one thing that might throw a pickle into my plans is it gets 3 inch flowers. I don't know if they will reduce as a bonsai. I do have one question on the trunk and how tall to make it. Is it right that a 1 inch trunk = 6 inches high?

Flowers basically never reduce on any species. HOwever, most Azalea's are kept as bonsai for the flowers (The tree itself is 99% of the time quite boring) hence no problem is you have big flowers.
Yeah, a 1:6 to 1:12 ratio between trunk thickness and tree height would be a good guideline to determine the max height for your tree. Naturally, very good examples exist of trees where this is completely different, think of some of the literati;
