Hello everyone!
This is my first post but I have been visiting both the actual site and the forum for a while now and I really like the amount of helpful information everywhere. So thank you for that.
I have bought my first bonsai early this year, and it developed into one of my favourite hobbies very quickly. My best tree is probably my acer palmatum.
The one in question here however I bought on ebay, and although I know that it still is very young (8 years old, about 18cm) and hardly a real bonsai yet, I somehow really like it.
Now I would have some questions I hope someone here could help me with:
1. The pot. Is it large enough to keep it growing quickly? Or could I even plant it into a real, shallow pot?
2. As a beginner I find it difficult to judge the value of a tree. How much would you think I should have payed? It did cost me 35 Euro (ca. 43 $).
3. Notice the brown needles on the photos. Is that a normal sight or something to worry about?
Thank you in advance.

Hi max,
welcome to BE.
That depends on the rootbal in it. Once the pot is filled with roots, it will start to slow down in growth. Depending on what you want to achieve you could consider placing it in a smaller pot, or in full ground. If you do not want it to grow bigger, consider a good trim of all the long branches, as these will start to loose foliage at some point, leaving you with long bare branches
A tree is worth what the buyer wants to pay. There are not strict rules that determin the worth of the tree. Personally, I would have not bought this tree for that price, but I would have gone to a tree grower and gotten a big shrub for half to a third of that price, then styled it myself. But that is my personaly preference.
Although conifers are evergreen, that does not mean they do not drop needles. Most of them keep their needles for 2 years, and then drop them. So if you mean the dry needles on the old branch: THat is normal. Also if the branches have been trimmed some may die off, which is what I think happened to the thin branchlet.
welcome to BE.
