You should let these trees rest until next spring. It looks like this one got a pretty good trim.

nice bones on your satsuki with some backbudding and height reduction thats going to be a great one. the canopy is a little large for the trunk . as for care they are quit finicky. they require a more acidic soil than normal plants to survive. they can not be alowed to dry out the feeder roots dry up quickly so keep the soil moist but not soggy. lastly and a big one (its what killed mine) chemical fertalizers can not be used when the soil is on the drier side they have to be watered thorowly and then after a few hours watered with fertalizer again because of the fragile feeder roots. they should be kept out of the days stronger sun, moorning and afternoon sun shade in the midday is best. you will have to turn the tree periodically to give all sides sun time or it will grow strong on one side and weak on the other. best of luck and keep us posted

put it in pure Kanuma with a top layer of Spaghnum and let it rest in semi-shade for 6 weeks and keep well moist..,also no feeding during these 6 weeks.. Kanuma drains super well and is special for Azaleas.. resembles a bit to Akadama in strukture, but than special for azalea..
and than don't touch again untill next spring.. just let it recover from this year's endevours
watch out with the roots, as Azaleas don't have fine "hair-roots"(?) so don't take away too much of them..
i put mine in Kanuma 4 weeks ago and trimmed it, and it's showing loads of new growth now..
