I was wondering about cracking also but we have fairly mild winters here on vancouver island shouldnt be a issue. I was thinking about some wire mesh in them also.. Time will tell

Those are nice ones as well. Are you sealing them?

I sealed one of them but dont like the finish, to shinny . I would just seal the inside next time, one I lined with a plastic bag and planted a holly in it. the others I just have already planted bonsai with their pots sitting inside the ones I made, will transplant them next spring

some nice stock you have there like the pots too. i found out if you leave cement pots out in the weather for a year the alkali components will disperse and be ok to use or just seal the inside like you said

You can speed up the "leaching" by placing the dried pots
in buckets of water and changing it regularly. The harmful
components dissolve into the water within a matter of weeks.

dukepoint wrote: I have only tried concrete so far , but I have tried different additives
in the mixture , the one in the picture has beach sand with alot of shell fragments in it..also added paper in it to lighten it up a bit.
I made a large pot yesterday with just concrete and small bits of granite added to it, but its quite heavy. should like good once I polish it tonite I can post a picture if you like..

Being an avid DIYer, I would like to see pics of the molds and if you wouldn't mind, a lil how-to of your complete process. I have looked up taking pottery classes so I could make my own pots and this looks like an awesome way to start it.

I would like to get any additional information you feel like sharing! Thanks and it looks awesome!!
