Hello,
I'm new to bonsai (well just about 10~11 months).I was really wondering that i saw in few articles about Chinese elm (Ulmus Parviflora) that the tree is need to be placed outside.Or as the species article say that if it was bought as and indoor tree it should be placed outside but just protected in winter.Well mine's was bought as a indoor tree (well it said on the guide). But i want it to be as healthy and live as best as posible so i want to take him outside but there's a thing that i live in Lithuania which is in the marine west coast climate zone and here there are some rough winter's .In Lithuania winter temperature is abou ~ -23 -32 C and that is cold for the tree. The summer temperature is ~ 25-30 C.So what should i do?
Should i take him outside just for summer?
O just keep it indoors?
But when you help me consider that i want to tree feel at its best.
Please comment my Elm.Tell my whats wrong and what i should change.
And please recomend which branches to prune.
P.S I live in my own house not in a CUNDO
P.SS Sorry for my bad english
Thank you
Best regards,
Dom

The guide give some excellent guidelines. Even though this ulmus is quite hardy, you should protect it if the temperature drops below -5 C. Wrap the pot in some isolating tissue like bubblewrap or hay. Snow also isolate extremely well. You could also place it in the shed or so during the night.
But the most important thing is not to water it when it freezes, making sure the soil is relatively dry. As soon as it stops freezing, water it firmly.

I would leave it outside all year. Just make sure to give it some protection like dsdevries said once the weather gets extremely cold.
As far as branches to prune.. I say just do what feels right. Make the tree unique and beautiful in YOUR eyes. Thats all that matters in my opinion.
That is a great place to get some inspiration.

if you condo is air conditioned i would recomend it to be outside . the a/c will suck the moisture right out of it. indoors would be ok as long as there is good lighting .you will still need to bring it into a dormancy period tho.best bet in my opinion is outside.
