Personally, I do not understand why people want to wait with giving the tree movement untill the trunk has become thick and dificult to shape.

Giving some movement in the trunk is fine if you want to completely control the final shape of the tree. Just bare in mind that most bonsai styles (accept for literati and some others) require the tree to have a thick trunk with a nice taper. This taper is achieved the fastest by letting the tree grow wild until the trunk has reached 1/2 of the desired thickness, then chop it of to 1/3 of the required length of the tree. Let the highest branch become the new leader and let the tree grow wild again until the new leader have reached 2/3 of the required thickness. Chop it of again and let the highest branch become the new leader and let it grow until the desired thickness and height of the tree.

You can wire the new leaders to give it the desired direction, or you can let it grow up to the light on it's own. You will get your movement anyway.

Branches are done the same way. The branches naturally want to grow up to the light, so if you chop the branch off, make sure a new eye is developing on the lower part of the branch. The new branch will grow downward a few inches and then starts to grow upward again. Repeating this process a few times will give you nice tapered branches with lots of movement without using any wire.

So if you wanna spend lots of money on expensive aluminum wire an lots of hours putting it on and off again, feel free to do so. If not, then remember it's not necessary at all during the first stages of developing bonsai from seedlings. It is only required in the final stages of developing good ramification or styling a mature tree for the first time.

Im glad to see another South African person on here, I was born in Joburg. How long have you been doing bonsai for? Or are you new to it? Im still learning things. Yeh I think acacia grow really well here. They hard to create bonsai with because when you cut branches they tend to die back quite a bit on the branch from where you cut it, and some species are hard to produce some good ramification. :)

名媛直播 wire isn't too expensive as long as you find a decent place selling it.

Hi again, I have been creating 名媛直播 for around 6 years,
but still consider myself new to it...
When I see the other people in our club that have decades of experience
it makes me feel like a bit of a beginner too.
I like Acacia's as a species for 名媛直播, they're unlike any other tree
that I have in my collection.
Perhaps you could visit our site and local forum.
and check out some local topics and discussions.

From the bonsai club i join many guys agree that the best type of acacia for bonsai are monkey thorn and knobthorn species. 6 years is a lot longer than me, I only started learning stuff in about December last year haha, but i feel im learning fast. :)..... now to do some work :/

Im busy joining the site haha :). I saw your post about african jade (crassula) you said you haven't seen or heard of many people using them as bonsai. I think its a lot more common to use it in Cape Town, lots of people use a slightly different variety for bonsai, they really easy to propagate too, I actually have a problem of having too many now. You can easily cut off a large branch and it will grow roots shortly after that.

Haha sorry I went a bit off topic in this thread...
