Hi -
I've been wanting to try training a 名媛直播 tree for about a year now, and think the time may have come.
I was just given a Japanese Maple that is about three years old and about two to two-and-a-half feet tall. It has been growing in a deep ceramic pot filled with regular potting soil for most of it's life. It had begun naturally from seed and was transplanted into the pot when it was fairly small.
The tree has already began budding for the spring and has a lot of small leaves.
What should my first steps be? Should I start pruning? Should I repot into a bonsai soil mixture? Is it advisable to cut back roots? Can I do all of these at the same time, or would that cause too much trauma?
Thanks

No problem. Here are three pictures showing the tree, a close-up of the trunk, and a close-up of the leaves.
Thanks

As a start you could maybe trim it down to the height you want, maybe 30-40cm plant it in the ground and start fertilizing it once it starts growing new growth. A good idea would be buying some bonsai wire and wiring a small bit of movement in the trunk before the trunk fusses. Hope that helps

I wouldn't re-pot it now. That normally is done right before the leaves open. You could reduce the height of the tree and wire. You could also start pinching the terminal leaves to promote back budding and shorter internodes.
