It’s outside in the morning sun and afternoon shade. Yes there is a drainage hole in the pot

Is there a drainage hole in the bottom of the pot?
And, if there is, is the pot sitting in water in the dish under it?

No there is no dish under it. What type of soil should I use?

I don't think you want to repot now. That would be a pretty big stress on the tree.
It looks like it is pretty standard potting soil under the rocks, but it is hard to say from the pictures. You want the soil to stay damp, but you also want it to drain. If it dries out at all the roots could have a hard time because the potting soil will compact down.
Next spring, ditch the potting soil and get or mix something about 1/3 akadama, 1/3 lava, and 1/3 pumice. You can order something like this online, otherwise you would get some big bags and have a lot left over.
