Hello, thank you for having us on this forum! We are exited to learn more as we get more into this hobby!

My partner and I purchased a Juniper 名媛直播 tree back in September and we’re hoping to get some advice on prepping for our first winter and general care. Our bonsai is named Eleanor.?

To begin, some background: We’ve had her outside in a mesh greenhouse since we brought her home in September. We live in an area where our summers reach temps of around 90F and our winters go anywhere from 10-35F, normally staying about ~20F. As I write this we are getting our first snow of the year, its currently ~30F today. That leads me into some questions I had about winterizing her.

We’ve done some research and from what we can see we should be keeping her outside exclusively, even with the snow that’s coming down right now, as long as it doesn’t get below ~15F. If it gets below 15 it said her roots may die. When it’s that cold, would a dark garage be a suitable place to keep her? I read if I bring her inside where it’s heated it can damage her dormancy cycle. Will it be ok that she’s got no light in our garage? Also, if I do keep her in the garage when it’s that cold, should I bring her back outside as soon as the temp rises above 15F again, or should she stay there until spring??

I also had some more general care questions. When we did some research about winterization we also saw some things we probably should have learned earlier.

1. A forum post I raid on here said a Juniper 名媛直播 should be re-potted every 2-3 years in August/September. We did not re-pot her after bringing her home in September, do we need to do that ASAP as soon as spring comes around, or should we wait until August of next year??

2. We’ve been watering her every 3-4 days whenever we go more than 5 days without any rain. When we water her, we fill a plastic tray below her with water and let the water seep up into the roots. Is that the right strategy, or should we be pouring water on top of her soil??3. Next we wanted to ask about feeding. We dropped the ball on that and haven’t given her any fertilizer since we brought her home. Should we be fertilizing her now, or wait until spring? I read it’s good to feed them every 2-3 weeks with high nitrogen fertilizer, is that correct??

4. The last question I had was about our mesh greenhouse and having her in a pot. Is it ok if she lives in a pot her whole life, or does she eventually need to be planted in the ground? Also, is there any reason we shouldn’t keep her in the mesh greenhouse, or is it ok? We put her in one cus we were scared of bugs eating her foliage, we live in an area with an invasive bug species that kills lots of greenery.?I think for now that is everything we were wondering about, but I’m sure more questions will arise.Thank you so much to anyone that takes the time to read this and reply!?

no repottng or fertilizing now.

10f is fine for juniper bonsai. Place it somewhere protected from wind an sun, on the ground.

Sounds like you are in a place where it snows a lot??

Just put it on the ground and let the snow cover it. Under Just 4 inch of snow temperature never gets below 30f.
