After 15 years in a bonsai pot I decided to field plant my Chinese Elm?in order to thicken the trunk. ?That was a couple of years ago and it has done real well. ?Well I have unexpectedly decided to move and will need to dig it up sooner than expected. ?
It is mid October in central Florida. ?All new growth has hardened off but is is too early for fall leaf change here as daytime temperatures are still in the 80’s.
My plan is to move it from the ground to a grow pot. But the question is when…….?
1) now, after everything is hardened off so it has time to acclimate before fall?
2) as late as possible? ?Heck it might be months before I sell and move.
The big question is- is there a worse possible time to dig it up? ?My guess would be the worst possible time to dig it up is during the fall change. ?Yes? ?No?
Thanks, Dan

I would say as late as possible, once the leaves drop it is better.
