I'm a beginner at taking care of bonsais and bought my first one a month or two ago. It was doing fine until recently it's been really hot and I forgot to water it a few days but then started to water it again. But at that point it started to yellow a little bit and hasn't improved since.?No matter how much sun it's been getting outside or how much I water it it doesn't seem to be getting better. Is there any way I can save it??

This plant is definitely suffering. It looks as it might recover, Keep watering and over the foliage too, but check the soil and water when almost dry. Changes do not happen overnight so it will be weeks before you will see any improvement. Move it to a more shady spot with less sun. You do not say where you are, in the northern hemisphere it is autumn so it will be slowing down ready for dormancy. Do not add any fertiliser and do not even think about re potting. If you can you could remove some of the dead bits but I can't see if the tips are dead or if it is further into the foliage. With a bit of luck you will not lose it,

Does this mean it is not outside at all times? In that case, that may be the issue.

Thank you for the response. And I'm in california! If I move it to a shady spot will that not be bad because it's getting less direct sunlight? Also when you say water over the foliage can you explain how much water like should it be more or less now that it's been suffering a little? Or maybe just misting a bit here and there every other day.

You do not help us enough to be able to help you good enough. The reason for ill health is quite important to establish and there are no reason for you to cover up your misstakes.

Ill take that as the reason for ill health is that you kept it indoors. Now when we have established the most likelly cause we can also give better and more targeted advice.

When a tree suffers indoors it is stressed by a lot of factors, one of them beeing lack of light. When you move it outdoors it is utterly important that you take it out first in full shade and slowly move it into more and more sun as you see it responds with greening up and starts to grow. Putting it into direct sun emedantly will burn it and stress it.

Now, no matter what you have done before or what knowledge you have received during your journey. The tree needs to be in full shade. No doubt about it.
