I don't expect frost forat least a month. Usually, lately, the tropicals come in in November so it may be December.?
I don't see how there will be enough growing time? before frost. I could leave it outside and take chances, or i could put it in tne unheated garage in a sunny window, and take chances.?
Whst would be the best chance?

When do the trees shed normally where you are? Here they are starting to turn yellow now and everything will be shed in 4-6 weeks.
Anyway, what I would do is proboably leave it outdoors until it has shed leafs for the season and then put it into the garage. But that is what I do to all my decidious trees. The only difference is that my "garage" is a greenhouse.

One year that happened? in late April after the deciduous trees were all completely leafed out.
Trees in the woods will start changing in about three weeks, but it won't be cold for another two or three weeks.?

My reason for putting the trees in the greenhouse is the authum and spring rains. When it is around 5c and constant raining, root rot is a real risk. And when the heavy freeze comes on soaking wet trees there is a risk of cracked pots and ripped roots. Obviously that can be prevented with any overhead protection. But I have a greenhouse, so why not use it? And I do enjoy sitting in there working on my trees when first sun of the year starts ro warm it up in there.
In your case, living in a much drier environment, I guess, the reason is another but the solution the same. Your new growth is not really ready for frost. I think the new growth will die back to some extend. Limiting the hours of below 0, but also how much it drops will proboably limit the dieback.

I have to water mine during the winter. We do get rain, but not every week. Sometimes in fall a hurricane will cause rain for a couple of days but then many days of no rain. The weather app predicts no rain the next 10 days.
This is the reason I recommend new people join a local club. Everyone there knows lical weather.?

In Scotland it was 10C at night. We asked if they could turn the heat on and they said they did not turn the heat on in June.?

Predicted high was 82F/28C. Actual yesterday was 93F/35C. We walked up to the park, about 2 miles/4000 steps/3 km. It was hot.Tropfrog wrote: 28 day and 22 at night!! That is what we call "tropical days" here. Does not happen every year. But I remember summer of 2018. We had those days for a fortnight.
It cools off enough by mid September that I don't have to water a second time in a day. In August it is 35C by 10:00 and doesn't drop much until 6:00 PM/18:00 or so. Two of the trees start to wilt by 4:00 if I don't water a second time.
I move the tropicals inside when temps are below 50F/10C. This used to be mid October and now is mid or late November.?Those who don't believe in climate change should explain why the date has moved later and later. I haven't recorded dates but it has moved back pretty evenly over the last two decades.
