Hi all,

I was recently unexpectedly given a Mountain Pine bonsai.

I will admit to not knowing anything about 名媛直播, but am keen to learn. I have watched lots of videos and read a couple of short beginner books etc. so I understand a lot of the ethos etc.?

So while I have a general sense of how to repot, prune, wire, what I don’t actually have any sense of is when I am actually meant to do any of these activities!

Please find attached a pic of the tree. Any views on when I should feel it’s ok to start wiring for example? ? Basically, do I now need to wait a year or so, or can I get started? ?Any advice whatsoever would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks?

First of all, put the tree outside. It evolved with daily cycles of heat and cold, varying yearly. Your room there is completely different and the tree will stress and quite likely die.

Wiring, etc., are all done to fit a plan. Until you have a plan wiring and pruning are too early. Read up on bonsai styling, go to a local bonsai club, find pictures on the web,? and go walk in the woods. Look at trees in terms of roots, trunks, branches, and leaves. Which tree do you want yours to look like??

At any rate, it is several months until time to do pruning, etc., so learn all about bonsais and care first.

Photo looks strange. Is it three trees planted closlely together or three trunks that splits extreamly low?

Anyway, if this was my tree I would put it in an oversized nurcery pot and grow it a few years to thicken up the trunk. And I would separate the trees if possible. If not, I would just keep one trunk. But it is your tree.

Thanks very much for the response. Just to confirm, I have kept the tree outside the whole time, I just brought it in for the photo shoot!

It is weird isn't it. I am fairly sure it is one tree with 3 trunks very low down (is the main trunk under the soil?)

More info here!?

I would also only keep one trunk It is difficult to tell even if there are three trunks, but it need a lot of growing as it is very young. If there is a trunk under the soil then it should be removed or potted correctly so that it is not below soil level.
