Hi,
A few days ago I bought a 10 year old portulacaria afra (dwarf jade). It was in bad shape and?the trunk was fully covered in wet soil.
I let it dry, fully trimmed it, and repotted it in a much?smaller bonsai pot. The roots were very small because of some root rot so there?should be enough space in the smaller pot. I didn't water it for 3 days after repotting.
So yesterday I watered it for the first time because the leaves look wrinkeled.?
Is there someone with experience with this species? I need some advice on how it looks, will it survive? And should I?wire it already? Any suggestions on finishing the hard pruning are welcome too. Thanks in advance.

It will survive, give it a week and there will be new leaves growing. I've never pruned mine as hard as yours but they always bounce back.

There is nothing to wire! You need to get this plant growing before any procedure, and certainly not wiring.

Not water for 3 days after repotting!!! This is a succulent species. Should be watered less than once a week. I would not water for at least three weeks after repotting, most likelly longer. All the water it needs is in the succulent tissues. After repotting it needs to grow roots, that can only happen when totally dry. New foliage also drink from the same source.
I agree with Geoff. No need to wire. Wiering is done for a purpouse, not for the sake of wiering.

Recognise that it's natively an African succulent.? It's normal habitat is semi-arid to arid with ave temp of 35 to 40 degC.? Temp range is low negative to 45 degC.? They don't need a lot of watering so even when it's hot just a short spray of water will keep the pot cool.? They thrive in hot soil temperature with shallow rootage.? Full sun.? They are slow growing.? Prune for direction though they don't need pruning very often.? Pruning for reticulation will take a very long time.? Basically, they don't need much attention - I class them as semi-bonsai.
