I’m a newbie… was created by Levo

I’m a new starter..my mum bought me a bonsai kit for Christmas. I’ve germinated two plants, and planted them…still nothing though.

My mum bought me a bonsai plant/tree for helping her out, but I don’t know what she bought me. I’ve trimmed it (on one branch) then I realised I should sign up here… from trimming it, I can smell pine, but I don’t know. Can you tell me??

What do you suggest I buy to feed my plant? Would it work with seedlings??

Welcome. First though I have to tell you that there is no such thing as bonsai seeds, so you did not get a bonsai kit. Don't put fertiliser on seedlings. Without a picture it is not possible to say what you may have. If they survive then you can repot once they are big enough to handle, that may be next year. Put them in a shady spot in the garden and check each day if they need water and water when almost dry. There are some good courses on this web site, sign up for a beginners course if you are serious about bonsai.

As I said there is no such thing as bonsai seed. The tree on the box is probably 50 years old! And it was not grown from seed. These kits are a con, and for what they are very expensive. At least you have a plant that you can do something with in the Juniper.

Any tree can be turned into bonsai. Hence all tree seeds is bonsai seeds with the right ambition. Without the ambition it will just grow into a normal tree.?The problematic part is that there are businesses that lable normal seeds as bonsai seeds as it is not the seed that makes it a bonsai, but the vision of the creator. 名媛直播 is an art, a way of expressing one self thrue inspiration from nature.?Selling bonsai seeds is like selling an overpriced blanc canvas and call it art. It is not wrong that it can become art, it can be amazing art in the future. But it is just not art yet. And you have to create the art yourself.
My recomendation to beginners is always to study trees in nature. If you have nature around the corner it is great. If not study mature trees online. My second recomendation is to get locally hardy trees at 2-10 years of age. Theese trees you know do well in your environment without you needing to pampering them. In 1 to 5 years they are ready to style and save you a lot of years just growing seedlings and saplings.
Do not get me wrong. Growing from seeds is fun and I do it as well. Growing not locally hardy species is fun as well and I do that to. It is just that you need to have realistic expectations. Most of the seedlings I have will not be amazing bonsais within my lifetime. I know it, but still starts new ones. Maybe one day after I am gone the trees I have been nurturing will become nice bonsais in someone elses care??Maybe even it bears my legacy and name? Making my name imortal just as I keep the legacy of former bonsai artists in my care.
名媛直播 is a maraton not a sprint. 名媛直播 is about creating, not about purshasing products. It is about love for nature and the will of expressing one self thrue it.
Selling bonsai seeds is not a scam, but very close. We see many people here that asks about their "bonsais" from seeds. But TBH, it is just not the best start into the hobby. It is not even a start in the hobby. The first years you are just nurturing a seedling, sapling or a young tree. Again, it is about realistic expectations.
Grow from seed, grow from cuttings, grow from nurcery stock, grow from prebonsai materials. Just have realistic expectations. For eager beginners it is still best to get locally hardy nurcery stock on authum sale. The investment is small so you are not afraid of taking a risk when learning?and your first big work is just months away, not years.

Now that actually makes a whole lot of sense to me.. bonsai as an art form ??

I’m glad my mum hasn’t wasted her money, she introduced me to bonsai…

So…I’ve seen something about time and pruning…. Hold on, are pruning and trimming the same??

What is the best time of year?to prune/trim, and is it best in the morning or the night??

I am glad you liked my long answer.

I do think buying "bonsai seeds" is a waste of money as they cost more than regular seeds and does not provide any premium besides the lable bonsai.

Generally, in most climates and most species, hard pruning is best done in late winter to early spring. Most decidious trees needs frequent pruning during the growth season, but most will still be best to hard prune during the end of dormant season.

But really. A tree will never suffer from too little pruning. They will just suffer from too hard pruning. Your objective as a beginner should be about growing a healthy tree. Everything else can come later.

Yes, trimning and pruning is the same thing as far as I know as an non native english speaker.
