Hello everyone!?
I recently found these two Katsura maples in Lidl and decided to give it a shot in adopting them for the long term journey to become bonsai.?
I did some research on what to do (and when to do it), but living?in Sweden right now we have pretty long days (4-21), and I'm not really sure how should I cope with standard manipulation times. Also I'm a noob, so I could totally use suggestion from more expert ppl.
Here are my questions:
1 - right now the pot seems to be full of roots (they come out from the bottom holes) and I know that in general having no space to develop roots is not good for plants growth. However I have understood that this is not the right period for repotting. What is best? Should I wait repotting in autumn/early spring or do it now? If I do it now, should I trim roots as well?
2 - I have very long branches, and I read that now is the ideal period to take cuttings to propagate plants (more bonsai ). Should I think about trimming now?the longest branches that I plan to cut in the autumn and?try?propagating them into new plants?
3 - I selected a sacrificial branch and bent it out with some wire?(I saw ppl having it like that but didn't understand why) but it's very long, should I shorten it to stimulate growth on the main branch?
4 -?is there anything else that I'm obviously missing?

take the wire off. These plants need to grow, and be cut down later. As long as the water drains through then there is no need to repot, and yes it is too late this year. There is nothing to do to these young plants for at least a year, and preferably 3 or 4 years by which time you should have been able to decide what style and how big you wants the tree to be.

V?lkommen till forumet! F?r nog ta en tur till lidl imorgon.
If you want the tree to grow faster it can be uppotted into bigger pot without doing any root work any time of the year.
The sacrificial branch is a good idea, but in order to work as one it needs to grow freely. It thickens the trunk beneath it faster than above it and creates a nice taper for your final tree. Althou look quite ugly meanwhile.
Kolla in green machine sweden p? Youtube och planera in ett bes?k till krabbelidernas oas p? tusen tr?dg?rdar 30e juni. Det kommer att finnas gott om tr?d och tillbeh?r till salu.
