I recently bought a 20 year old Ligustrum bonsai(one month ago), it has been completely trained, it has been dropping an extraordinary amount of leaves in the last few weeks they are drying up on the limbs I thought I was not watering to little and now I think I am watering too much. The tree was repotted before shipping to me and it arrived very healthy. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to go forward with proper care

Check the care instruction for your exactly species and dont watering to much the first weeks after repotting.

I do quite the oposite. I water newly repotted trees more than established trees. In my mind less roots demands more water to take up the same amount and a new more open substrate demands more water to get saturated and dry up faster.

In any way, I would never buy a newly repotted tree. They are just more sensitive when they are newly repotted.

Fresh repotted and shipped to a new owner, is not the best solution, a lot of stress to the tree.
If it arrived healthy , maybe needs a couple days (3-21) to indicate some problems ?!
