Trying to start from scratch with a seedlings or propagation. Can someone please help me identify what species of oak this is.

There are quite a big number of oaks out there. Even more if you count the species that are called oaks without beeing oaks. Telling us your location will rule out quite a lot of species.
For now I can tell for sure this is not the common oak, Quercus ruber.

From the leaves and what I read...maybe southern red oak. But not sure as the description are not the same
