I got given this guy for my birthday in mid December. Since then I’ve been researching as much as I can in an effort to keep him alive! Sounds like they’re more work than a baby! Leaves have started yellowing slightly. Gave him a slight haircut. Watering him daily. He lives outside in the sunniest spot we have (about 8 hours direct sunshine a day? Temperature here in NZ around 25 degrees Celsius. That’s all I know. I’ve been told he a variety of Juniper? I don’t know what dirt he is in. Came as it now looks. Other than that I know little else. Please give me some advice on how to keep him alive and help him flourish.

Yes it is a Juniper, looks in reasonable condition. I would think that it is necessary to water it most days, but don't water to a schedule, check the soil and water when almost dry. Junipers like sun. Check the species guides on here, also why not get the app, it is very helpful.
When it comes to pruning allow the tree to grow before pruning the new growths and do not pinch the new growths. Fertiliser either solid or liquid, if liquid every week to 10 days until late autumn. Soil looks ok, and as long as it is draining well no need to re pot.

Thanks. Can you tell me about the fertiliser? What type? How often? How much?

Fertilizer is more a question about opinion and personal experience than fixed rules. We all do different. I tend to use osmocote control release fertilizer for the ease of it. But I also water my trees with pond water that contains low levels of fertilizer.
When trees are grown in proper free draining mostly non organic soil, over fertilizing is very hard. Excess fertilizer flushes out the drainage holes when watering.
Junipers respond very well to foliage fertilizer also.
If comercial liquid fertilizer is used: In winter do not fertilize, in spring and authum fertilize half recomended dose, in summer use full dose.
