Hello,
Can anyone here advise on the best methods for propagating from a mature Mulberry Morus alba growing in a nearby garden?
The owners want to fell it for safety reasons and have applied for planning permission .
I would like to take cuttings and or airlayer from it and Im looking for advice for maximising success
eg timing methods and maximum size of cutting/ layers?
Any tips would be most welcome!

It should airlayer not sure about cuttings. Spring is the time to do it. No point doing it now in winter.

Mulberry roots very easily, you can do air-layer if you can, to improve your chances and maybe get a better flared out roots...
But it roots very well with large and small cuttings, I've rooted branches almost as thick as my wrist...
About the time of year, probably best in late winter / early spring, but that's in my climate, I've done even on Summer with success...
My advice is to do Both, do air-layering on the most promissing parts of it, and also do a bunch of cuttings if you wish.

Do keep in mind the option to use the main trunk. Not sure of the size, but digging it up might be a route too.
But yeah, rooting cuttings is quite easily done and can be done on bigger parts of the tree. This also is the fastest, so you do not run the risk of the neighbours felling the tree as you are layering.
