I was advised on this Forum that I should put my Japanese elm not inside but outside. I did this and now it’s basically died. This bonsai tree was a present from a member of the family who often asks how my tree is looking so what do think I should say?

I don't know about you, but I would never lie to a family member. Tell him/her the truth.

Hello Jack, I'm sorry to hear that.

I remember you topic, but I'm sure it wasn't being outside that killed it in a week.

Outside is their natural environment, maybe it lost the leaves due to adaptation to a new spot, bringing it to full sun needs to be gradual to avoid that kind of stress.

Like I said, maybe it just dropped the leaves, or maybe underwatered?
Or maybe it was already dying and just came to die with you, that also can happen.

But elms are tought, you didn't share a picture from this tree yet, can we see it?

If it's indeed dead, you should tell the truth, that you tried your best in understand how to care for it, but it takes time to learn the horticulture behind 名媛直播, and I believe I speak for all of us when I say we all had the experience of loosing a tree...

Not many us have their first tree still alive. I have and I know Nigel Saunders have, but I cannot remember anyone else. As Albas say, part of the learning curve.

The only information we had awailable about this tree was that it was a japanese elm, that it was indoors and that it was losing leafs.

The answer you got was that it was most likelly not a japanese elm, but a chinese elm and that it should be outdoors. That is basically everything we could respond on the given information. Later you gave us the information that you are in UK and that you were woried about rain. You got answer based on that information as well. If we had more information it would be possible to respond on that.

But it is not to late to try finding out the reason for your loss If you wish. Just provide information and pictures.

It feels a little like you are blaming the people who gave you the recommendation to put it outside for your tree being dead.
As a reminder: You came to the forum for help AS YOUR TREE WAS LOOSING LEAVES in a worrying fashion.

Earlier choices and / or mistakes in its care were what hut the tree. NOT the advice to place it outside.

Maybe you could at some point consider sharing a picture.

Not sure how much Japanese Elm differ from Chinese Elm but my Chinese Elm was unhappy by the window too. After putting it under a grow light it was incredible to see the explosion of new growth. It went from being essentially defoliated to looking back to normal within a months time.

The care is excactly the same for japanese and chinese elm. However, basically all trees sold as japanese elms in garden centers is chinese elms. Japanese elms is quite rare.
