I purchased two dawn redwoods a few years ago. They where medium size when I got them. The second year my dogs destroyed them. One survived. I love bonsai but never really got serious about any trees. I ordered some tools to prune the redwood I have. I need help deciding what style for the tree and where to begin pruning. I trimmed the roots and put it in the current pot last year. I got a concave cutter to trim the broken apex off. The dog bit it in half and I cut it off. It has grew a new apex but all the branches stim from the cut.

To me it seems like your dog know better about bonsai styling than you. Just pet him an tell he is a good boy (or girl)
Jokes aside. I would put this tree in a big pot and let it grow wild, just cut the top back like your dog did a few times every second year or so.

I would put it in the biggest container that I can fit in my garden.
