Good evening,

My mum bought my son a bonsai nearly two weeks ago. Within 3 days alot of the leaves had browned and curled up with more showing signs of following suit and the tree looked dead or dying.

So for the past week or so I've been watering, misting and sat her in a nice bright spot. Things looked to be slowing and hopefully a slow road to recovery has started. I haven't picked up any dead leaves for 3 days running.

I’m hoping you folks could answer me a few questions:-

1.could you please tell me the type (i think its a ficus) see attached images
2. Is the pot too small. (Thats what it came in)
3. In the image could you tell me if thats a new tree sapling in the soil.

Not sure it is a Ficus. The only thing to do is take it back to where it came from and demand the money back, I doubt it will survive.

First rule of thumb, once you find out what species it is, you'll likely need to take it outside.

Few tree species do well inside, I have really only found some tropicals to do well inside of the species I have tried. There are pretty good care guides here to follow once identified that can help you learn how to keep the tree healthy.

Thank you for the reply. I m happy to say I didnt take the tree back. After hours of videos and tutorials along with alot of advice regarding trimming off the dead, I stripped the tree completely of dead discoloured leaves and branches, repotted and happy to say shes thriving.

After the stripping and rehoming she has lots of new shoots and leaves growing.

Established what seems to be a nice feeding and watering routine.
