Hello,
I recently bought 3 Japanese yew bonsai (~4 years old) but just now I came to know that these are one of the most toxic woody plants in the world. can anyone tell me what are all the do's and don'ts. does it releases any toxic in the air or something like that?

How do I take care of this bonsai and the others from the bonsai?

Yews are toxic if you chew on them, which matters if you have dogs or little kids.

Yews are outdoor plants and require outdoor conditions with light, temperature, humidity, air movement, and so forth, and it is virtually impossible to have those conditions indoors.

Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata) , like you said its one of the most toxic woody plants lol. The entire plant, including the leaves, seeds, bark, and even the dust from pruning, has toxins called taxines. Here are some do's and don'ts I put together for you:

Do's:
1. Wear gloves when handling the bonsai, especially during pruning or repotting. You don't want direct contact with the toxic parts of the plant.
2. Keep the bonsai out of reach of children and pets if you have any.
3. Wash your hands and tools after working with the bonsai.
4. Keep the bonsai healthy and minimize stress, when they're stressed they tend to produce more toxins.

Don'ts:
1. Don't eat it.
2. Don't burn it.

That's really all there is to it, and just make sure to throw away any clippings or pruning's from the tree

Taking care of your Japanese yew bonsai takes some basic bonsai care practices. Here are a few tips:

1. Light: Japanese yew bonsai prefer bright, indirect light. Place it near a window where it can receive partial sunlight throughout the day. Avoid exposing it to intense midday sun, since that can scorch the leaves.

2. Watering: Water your bonsai when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Don't overwatering or let the soil dry out completely. Use a watering can or a gentle spray to moisten the soil evenly.

3. Humidity: Japanese yew bonsai prefer mid to high humidity. To increase humidity levels, you can put it on a humidity tray filled with water or mist the foliage whenever possible.

4. Fertilization: Give a balanced, slow-release bonsai fertilizer during the growing season (spring to early autumn).

5. Pruning and shaping: Prune your bonsai regularly to maintain its shape and remove any dead, damaged, or overgrown branches (unless you want deadwood). Use clean tools.

6. Repotting: Repot the bonsai every 2-3 years, ideally during early spring. Use a well-draining bonsai soil mix and trim back some of the roots during repotting to encourage healthy growth.

That's all the advice I got for you, do your own research and you'll figure it out.
