Hi everyone,

First of all I wanted to say hi to all the enthusiasts as Im totally new to this forum and the topic. Went to the garden store today to pick up some flowers and saw a couple of bonsai trees and immediately fell in love with them, so I decided to get one. My question is regarding the two main trunks. Should I keep the extra one or get rid of it? Im also thinking about repotting the tree because it seems like the tree sits too high in the soil and is not sturdy at all. I also found out that if my tree gets fresh new roots on top of the soil it should be covered with some more soil, that is another reason I thought about repotting cause there is not really any room in the pot to add any more soil.

Thank you.

I don't really understand the choice process here. It seems like you choosed a two trunk tree, but you don't want a two trunk tree? It has surface roots you don't like. Still you say you fell in love with it? Was this the only tree awailable? Why did you fall in love with this very specimen?

Next time look at the trees awailable and chose the one that looks best for you. And never buy a tree that is vobbly in the pot.

I have seen so many beginners taking home a spontaneous bought tree and emedantly starts to repot, hard prune and style. Most of them fail. Without knowledge and experience with the species it is very risky to start work on it.

Better is to just grow the tree for a full season, just trimming new growth. Get to understand the requirements for the species before any big interference. Spend the time study the species, the specimen and the art of bonsai. If the tree is still healthy come next spring you will know how you want to style it and don't need to ask what others would do with the same tree.

OH, yes. Wobbly tree may need to be corected right now. Get some bonsai wire and tigh the tree into the pot without disturbing the roots.

And as Geoff allready mentioned. Without a picture it is not possible to make any style comments about the tree.

That looks like two trees in one pot to me. After a year of good care I would try to separata them.

Does not look like zelkova to me. Proboably misslabeled chinese priset.
