Is my juniper dead? was created by Bflow

I’m in Michigan and it is still pretty cold out, we get into the 40s but have dipped down to the 20s occasionally like today. I repotted my juniper a few weeks back and now it’s showing browning/yellowing. It came from an indoor nursery and was very green so I’ve want sure if this was its dormant look. I’ve watered occasionally but we’ve also gotten some rain so I haven’t been too heavy with it. It gets good drainage, just watered because the soil was dry and the water flowed through with excess leaving the bottom of the pot. I did a scratch test on some branches and the most yellow ones have a little green with white underneath if I scratch at further. It’s been outside most days just brought it in tonight because it will be cold/frosty again.

I live in Rochester and I have very similar things happening to my Junipers as well. I've been keeping them completely outdoors for a month after they came in from Florida and now most of their leaves got darker and some tips are turning brown. However I believe the trees are very much alive and this might just be their winter appearance.

The complete yellow shoots on the left side your pic seems somewhat off to me. I guess we need to wait for experts to answer that haha.

Hard to tell.

You mentuio you have frost now, yet you say temps are in the 20-ies? Which is it?
n any case.. THese should be outside, period.

It is hard to tell what you did when repotting. It is easy to do too much. The soil you planted it in looks very organic to me.

Thank you both, good to know someone in the area has a similar look to their trees I think it may be weather related then.

The temp has been up and down unfortunately on Michigan there can be frost one day and 45 with sun the next. Only time it is in the unheated garage is if it will get very cold at night which hasn’t been in the last week. The soil is a mix of 4 parts peat moss 1 part perlite and 1 part bonsai soil mix of lava rock, pine bark, calcined clay, and pumice. Good drainage on it, but still retains moisture.

Some of the yellow areas have greened up, a little which gives me hope. There is one chute that isn’t looking great but it’s also on the end of a branch that was cut at the nursery so that may be why.
