Hello, newbie here. (Please please be gentle)

I've always wanted a 名媛直播 and I was excited when my friend got me one as a gift. However, I'm completely new to the care and maintenance of them and I think mine arrived (about a month ago) in relatively dry soil.

It's been shedding leaves since I got it and I'm worried it's dying. The person who imported it said this is normal and that the leaves will regrow, but I just want to be sure that I'm not killing this wonderful gift.

Type: Japanese Holly (Ilex - as per the plant passport) - images attached.
Climate: Tropical. I live right along the tropics, so it can be hot and I'm worried it might be the wrong climate.

Please advise.

Yes it is the wrong climate. You have it inside!!! You are probably not watering enough as well. It will have suffered before you got it, and now it is suffering more. Put it out in a shady spot, water when dry, that could be two or three times a day depending on how it dries out.

Thank you!

I first had it outside and was worried the climate was too hot for it, then I was afraid of overwatering it because of root rot, but I'll water it more.

Let me follow the instructions.
