Hello! I’ve recently bought what I believe to be a Japanese Black Pine during my trip here in Japan. Im still here for a few more days, 4 if that matters, before I head back to the U.S. and was wondering if anyone has any experience with transporting bonsai internationally. Specifically will they let me take it on the plane, and if they do is there any risks it might experience other than someone accidentally crushing it?

I am not totally sure about USA, but most countries demands a photosanitary certificate and a agricultural professional to come and inspect the tree upon arrival. The price for this in Sweden is in the range of 250 Euro. You need to check with US officials If it is needed for this travel.
Wheather or not you will be alowed to bring it on the flight need to be checked with the airline company. They all have different rules.

Imported trees normally need to be without any soil and include a certificate.
Bringing it on the plane will nto be the issue.

Call the US embassy and ask them.
You probably won't get an answer until Monday and they probably will have to check with USDA here.
You might email your local House of Representatives person from your district back home. It's early Friday here and you might get an answer. I emailed my representative in February several years ago. They responded in June.
Good luck.
