First time 名媛直播 tree owner and total noob, but I'm determined to do things right.I have this Chinese Elm. Aside from watching that the soil doesn't dry out and getting plenty of light, is there anything else I should do at this point? The top of the tree seems a bit cluttered, but wasn't sure whether to prune.

This is typical of the plants that are sold. It has been kept in poor light, and from what I can see the soil is not too good. I would place it in a spot with some shelter and out of the prevailing wind, later in the spring you could re pot but not now. There is nothing to prune yet. If you check the tree species section above it will give you more information.

You still don't say where you are, it helps. No do not re pot it yet, and only if it is necessary, not because you can. If it is draining well then there should be no need.

I have trees purshased in authum 2021 that are still in that coco fibre soil and still healthy.

I agree that it may not be the best soil long term. But it is what the trees has been comercially produced in. If it is good for comercial production it is good for a beginner as well.

I always wait a full growing season to pass before I do any big works on my new trees. If you repot come spring and the tree gets into ill health it is not possible to tell if it is due to repotting or general care.

So If the tree is not crazy root bound and the soil is draining well, I would suggest repotting spring 2024. For now focus on getting the general care right. You are aware that chinese elms cannot tollerate living room conditions and must be grown outdoors?

There are values conected to go slowly in bonsai. To take things slow often gets you faster to the goal.
