Hello -
My husband got me a Gardenia bonsai tree. It's my first bonsai tree, and I'm not really sure how it's doing. The pot it came in broke during shipping, so I had to repot it pretty immediately. It doesn't seem to be taking root in its pot - if I push on it just a little bit it wobbles from side to side. It also had grown crooked, but I don't want to trim it back too much on the right because I'm not sure how it's doing in general. Any advice for a newbie is welcome! Thank you!

You did not re pot it properly if it is loose in the pot. If it is not straight that is because it is is loose and can move about. You should only have replaced the pot not touched the roots. This plant will not do well inside, it needs sunlight and it needs air neither of which it will get where it is.If you are in the northern hemisphere then it is winter and probably cold, so it would be difficult to have it out at the moment but as soon as it is possible get it outside. If you are in the southern hemisphere then it should be out

I second luke. Trees feed from the thinnest newly grown roots if the tree wiggles in the pot those fine feeder roots are destroyed every time it mowes.

One year I was lazy and saw no need to wire a couple in.
We had a windy spring day where a tornado missed us but we did get some pretty high gusts of wind. Several trees that I had not wired in were blown out of the pots. I lost three of them, including my first air layer, a really nice looking elm.
Now I wire them all and I pay attention to the forecast and put them on the ground if winds are coming.

Thank you - when I repotted it, I carefully moved into into the new pot without touching the roots and then added in more potting soil because the new pot was bigger than the old pot. I didn't wire it in - is this something I can do now or is it too late?
I'm in the Northern Hemisphere in Colorado in the US. At what temperature is it safe to start having it outside?
