How can I regrow this dehydration-damaged tree? was created by Rakesh, London

Unfortunately while abroad I was not able to water this lemon tree enough and all of its leaves and many of the upper branches died, I pruned all of these off. Since the trunk is quite thick the tree was able to survive and it has grown a new branch but only from one spot. If the other branches are alive will they eventually grow their leaves back? And would pruning the new branch help redirect growth to the rest of the tree?

I cannot see any pictures.
On your question about if the leafs grow back on live branches the answer is yes.
Never prune an unhealthy tree. Just let the tree recover in good care. If you are in the northern hemisphere it will take until late spring before you will see any improvement. Patience is the key.

Here is the tree not sure why it didn't send before, I'm keeping it indoors since it seems to do better that way. Ok so I'll just let it grow for a while then Please log in or register to see it.

I think that you may rushed away a little bit here. There seems to be life left in the pruned branches,. Pruning did not help the tree.
In my experience it is not possible to overwintering citrus in living room conditions. They become very weak and collects all kind of pests. It is essential in my area to cool it down during winter to restore the balance between awailable sunlight and heat. The less sunlight the cooler it should be kept. Grow light can be beneficial, using good light makes it possible to overwintering a little bit warmer. But it is not possible to blast them so that living room temperature works, that will just dry up the air around the plant and make it even more of a bug magnet.

The parts that I pruned off were definitely dead though, the remaining branches I believe to still be alive so hopefully they will grow new foliage in the future. Maybe because I grew this tree from seed indoors but it seems to like indoor conditions better, all the live growth you see on it grew indoors.

In the 5 years it has been growing I only put it outside for one winter, it did survive but growth rate slowed down a lot even into the summer so I brought it back in and it's been doing much better.

Wow! Five years indoors and one winter outdoors and still alive! That is quite impresive I must say. Here they don't survive two years indoors and definitely not a winter outdoors. I guess the mild London climate is the key here.
