Hello everyone,
I hope you are well. I live in zone 7B and was advised to leave my hinoki cypress bonsai outside to experience some frost warning level temperatures before putting it into dormancy. The result has been that some foliage on the inside has yellowed and since turned brown. The vast majority is still a vibrant green as is the outer foliage; just the interior browned in some areas. Should I put the cypress into dormancy now; remove the brown foliage (is the tree still healthy?); or should I leave it alone for the time being. I have no idea! I appreciate any thoughts!

Old foliage and shaded foliage do die. That is a natural growth pattern for all evergreen conifers.
What do you mean with "putting into dormancy"? The tree go dormant based on environmental factors no matter what.
