No surprise it lost leaves, that was a very heavy root removal, it might survive if you are lucky.

Yes! Indeed a quite hard root pruning in authum.

Most temperate trees are best repotted in late winter to early spring. Most tropicals is best repotted in summer. I don't know any species that responds well to authum repotting.

It may help the tree to increase humidity by some kind of humidity dome. Decrease light may help as well. But honestly, I am not sure this is possible to save. Next time ask before intervention, not after.

Chinese privet, I guess what you mean, was my first thought as well. However it seems like it has been grown in living room conditions for 4 years. I don't think a chinese privet would survive that.
