Hi!

I am caring for a 7 month old Flame Tree (Royal Poinciana) in Southern California and recently it has stopped fully developing into the natural green color and keeps hints of immature yellow. It also seems as though the branches aren't as stiff as they should be. Not sure what the issue is. I'm still seeing great growth and branches continue to spring out at a good rate but the branches themselves seem to develop much slower. If you notice white spots on the leaves its just an antifungal I use. Please give me some suggestions!

Thank you

No own experience of the species. But I made the same Google searches that I would do prior to any tree purshase. It seems like you are on the very limit to that trees hardiness zone. A zone breaking project may not be the best beginner project. Anyway, in zones that gets a little colder winters, this species is decidious. Wilting in authum followed by dropping all leafs would be expected.

Agree with Tropfrog. They grow around here, but don't do extremely well, I assume because the winters are so short and not very cold. Southern California, which I guess is LA or so, would not come close to having what most of us would call winter.

In other words, good luck.

Royal Ponciana is a deciduous species, so as it gets colder it will start shed it's leaves, by now you may have also notice that new shoots have a droppy aspect...

So, you tree looks fine.

Btw, if you really want to thicken this, give it a big pot, this species has a big thickening power, but you have to give it's roots enough space, otherwise, they'll be slender forever...
