Hi all, although I’ve been pondering for far to long I’ve just taken the plunge and am looking at tools. There seems so many variants of similar tools.
So can you recommend what bonsai tools are essential and in what order building up to a full set?
I’ve already got a pair of scissors but would be good to know what types of the many cutters / snips would be advantageous first. ( especially as I’m being asked what I’d like for Xmas by family).
Also any advice on brands ( if allowed) I’ve been an engineer all my working life so do appreciate not all tools are equal.
Lee.

You get what you pay for, cheap tools are not worth buying they do not last. Wire cutters side cutters jinn pliers will suffice to start and you can add to that as you progress

Which cutter to shose is a matter of preference. Nobody needs all of them. I like the knob cutter most.
So far, 6 years into the hobby, I don't have any wire cutter, side cutter or jin pliers. But I do have bonsai scissors. One branch scissors and one root pruning scissors. And the knob cutter as well, my favorite tool.

Thankyou, and I can understand what your saying. I’ve been an engineer most of my working life and understand tools are a preference.
