Hello!

I have a hinoki cypress and I am not sure what course to follow as far as overwintering goes. I keep hearing a bunch of different information about when, how long, and where to put them. I live in growing zone 7 (Washington DC) so we get freak nights of frost before winter starts and even after winter. My question is should I put them into dormancy now to stay ahead of the freak frost occurrences or should I wait until a specific time such as mid November regardless as others have advised me. Also, we had one night where the temperatures got really low and some of the hinoki's pads started to turn yellow; they are still firm and pliant like the rest of the tree but I want to make sure I am not killing it. Thank you! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hinoki cypress is hardy to usda zone 5. I would just put it on the ground close to the house so it is somewhat protected from drying winds.
